Now that Sunderland are challenging at the top end of the Championship table, with promotion to the Premier League looking very possible, the Black Cats can set their sights on some more illustrious names in the transfer market.
Many people thought Sunderland were simply dreadful last season. In the end, the Black Cats ended just six points above the drop zone, and if it hadn’t been for Jack Clarke’s goals, Sunderland could have played in League One this season.
Instead, Regis Le Bris joined over the summer, and the club’s fortunes have changed dramatically. Sunderland won their last Championship game 1-0 over Portsmouth, giving them back-to-back victories.
The Black Cats are currently in fourth place in the Championship league, three points behind leaders Leeds United. But what occurs during the January transfer window could determine who gets promoted and who doesn’t.
Sunderland has been associated with various attackers in the past, implying that their major goal in the window is to sign one. Enzo Le Fee, however, has been linked as a new and promising midfielder.
Sunderland handed Enzo Le Fee transfer boost
Recently, Sunderland has been linked with La Fee, who presently plays for Serie A club Roma. However, Le Bris is familiar with the 24-year-old French central midfielder, having previously managed him at Lorient.
Le Fee has only appeared six times in Serie A this season, following his £19 million move from Rennes in the summer. However, Real Betis has been tracking him down and he could be on the move soon.
However, a new report from Spanish outlet Dario de Sevilla claims that La Fee’s proposed loan move to Real Betis has fallen through. Le Fee has called off the move because Betis is taking too long to finalise the agreement.
