“Nowhere near good enough” – Cardiff City backed to offload 26-year-old this month

“Nowhere near good”enough”—Cardiff City backed to offload 26-year-old this month

In the event that Cardiff City terminates Wilfried Kanga’s loan agreement, he will return to his original club, Hertha Berlin.

It now appears like the 26-year-old attacker will return to the German second division team this month after failing

to score in 16 games for the Bluebirds this season.

The Championship underdogs are reportedly in talks with Hertha about ending his loan agreement in order to make

room for more attacking additions during the winter transfer window.

Kanga was once a young player for PSG, but his time at the Cardiff City stadium hasn’t gone as planned. We talked to

our Bluebirds fan pundit Jack Price to try to figure out why.

“Does absolutely nothing” – Damming verdict delivered on Cardiff City striker Wilfried Kanga

Hertha Berlin's Wilfried Kanga

Kanga scored 12 goals with Standard Liege, a Belgian Pro League team, before joining Cardiff in the summer. He had

previously scored 16 goals with Young Boys, a Swiss team, in 2021–2022.

There is a guy there who has clearly demonstrated that he can score goals at a high level of European football, so why

hasn’t it worked out for him in the capital of Wales?

Speaking on Kanga’s time at Cardiff thus far, Price stated: “Hopefully, Hertha Berlin will welcome him back if the

two clubs can agree to finalise his loan arrangement. However, it seems inevitable, doesn’t it?

First of all, considering how little football he has played, they (Hertha) won’t be pleased.

“He is really a last resort when coming on as a sub, and he doesn’t even do that all that often. Whilst Cardiff can be

very, very unhappy with his performances. He’s been nowhere near good enough, and his statline reads 15 games, no

goals, no assists.

“He has had two shots on goal the entire time, so it’s not like he hasn’t scored; he simply doesn’t put himself in a

position to do so. He doesn’t do any of the basic skills required of a striker. He truly doesn’t bring anything.

Because of his lack of speed, he isn’t falling behind. He doesn’t push himself. He doesn’t exist at all during link-up

and transition play. On the other hand, while Callum Robinson is a productive player, he will also make up for it by

dropping deep and trying to get on the ball and create opportunities when goals aren’t coming.

“There is nothing at all that Wilfried Kanga does. He is not a winner in a duel. There is nothing that he has

contributed. Nobody at all

Potential Wilfried Kanga replacements identified as Cardiff City eye further attacking additions in January

Ali Al-Hamadi for Ipswich Town

Sending Kanga back to the German capital would free up a place in the Cardiff City squad for a more impactful

forward player to arrive at a crucial stage of the Bluebirds’ season, but who might that be?

Discussing the potential options that might be available to the club, Price said: “In terms of a replacement, it’s

difficult because we’re in a very precarious position. Although, we do badly need a striker, and we’ve got three of our

four senior strikers out of contract in the summer in Robinson, Isaak Davis and Kion Etete, which could prompt us

to go into the market – always got to be careful.

He is one of two attackers I would really, truly want because of his lineage, even though it is a risk. Ali Al-Hamadi at

Ipswich is the other. He was fantastic for AFC Wimbledon in League Two. Last season, he was signed by Ipswich,

and he had a very quiet part in their promotion.

“You have to wonder how many goals he could achieve if he started 15 to 20 games, as he only scored four goals and

many of them came off the bench.

“Once more, I believe that both of those players will be much sought-after this month if they are made available for

loan, and there’s a solid reason for that—they are both extremely talented strikers. They seem to be a good fit for

what we would be searching for.

“So in conclusion, Kanga is miles, miles away from being at the level to even compete for a place, and Jayden Danns

and Ali Al-Hamadi would both be good pickups, so get that done Cardiff.”
