Norwich City: Emmanuel Adegboyega on Dundee United loan

Norwich City prospect Emmanuel Adegboyega credits his good form on loan at Dundee United to the support of experienced teammates.

The 21-year-old has excelled at Tannadice Park, starting 18 of the Terrors’ 20 league games after signing a season-long contract in August.

He has mostly played on the right side of a defensive three, but in recent victories against Aberdeen and Dundee FC, he was part of a quartet similar to Johannes Hoff Thorup’s City formation.

He was satisfied with his own performance in the win against the formerly title-challenging Dons, but praised 31-year-old defensive partner Kevin Holt for his contribution.

“I was very happy with my own performance, playing in a back four rather than a three, but having Kev beside me makes that a lot easier,” he reflected. “The communication is excellent; he is constantly talking to me, and we had enough time to complete the game.”

“As an older, more experienced player, he has a huge effect. I do not believe he ever stops talking! That’s a big plus; he’s always telling me to scan or do this and that. I also try to be loud and communicate, but as a young player, I am always listening.

“I want to take everything on board because his effect is so strong. Learning from senior players, namely Deccy (Gallagher), is really beneficial to my own growth and career.”

United’s fast ascent has made them the surprise package of the Scottish Premiership, behind just Rangers and Celtic, whom they meet tomorrow, in third place. He claims he thrives on it, even when the games come thick and fast.

“I’m relishing the challenge,” he said, speaking to the Daily Record. “These are significant games, and you want to prove that you can play them well. This is why we play football. We all want to show that we can compete in these games and win when it counts.

“There are only 12 clubs in our league, including some strong teams, and every single match is a challenge, so having these back-to-back games tests the mental toughness.

“You must persuade yourself psychologically that you are not fatigued. You can sense the momentum developing. We always want to start well and continue that into the following year.”
