Sheffield Wednesday have moved to secure the long-term future of highly rated midfielder, Sean Fusire.
Last year, The Star reported that the Owls were anxious to sign the 19-year-old to a new deal at Hillsborough after impressing boss Danny Röhl, with the childhood Wednesdayite going on to make a number of Carabao Cup appearances.
Fusire is a player who Röhl has talked highly of since becoming aware of his potential, and it was after multiple training sessions with the first team, including the summer preseason, that moves were made to give him a new contract. The agreement has since been announced.
It is anticipated that if all goes well, Fusire will stay at Wednesday until 2028, and as part of his development, the U21s captain may be sent out on loan to gain regular senior minutes.
Speaking to The Star about the brilliant adolescent last month, Röhl stated, “Of course, the cup games were extremely beneficial. I believe that simply seeing how far or close he is gives me a pleasant feeling, not only for him, but for all of us. Then in January, we do whatever makes sense.
“On the one hand, it’s about having him here and making sure we can meet our objectives. On the other hand, we must consider the long-term picture and if it is beneficial for him to play every week or three games every week until May. However, it must be the correct match.
“Fusire’s strength is playing football from the back… If you have a club that only looks for long balls, I don’t think this is the right fit for him. We want to build up his strengths, but let’s see.”
