‘It’s a blow to us’: Reading boss issues update on injured duo ahead of FA Cup outing

Reading manager Noel Hunt has provided an update on injured pair Mamadi Camara and Michael Craig ahead of this week’s FA Cup third round match against Championship side Burnley.

The teenage pair have been regulars this season, with Camara scoring in the previous two home games, but both are expected to miss the next several weeks due to groin and hamstring injuries, respectively.

This occurred at the end of a demanding festive schedule in which the Royals played five games in three weeks, earning 10 points out of 12 and staying in the top six.

Hunt stated following Saturday’s 0-0 draw at Charlton Athletic that Camara will be out for at least three weeks, while Craig continues to struggle.

“He [Camara] had a scan, and it was weeks rather than months, possibly three or four weeks. He’s done fantastic, so it’s a setback for us.”

On Craig, he added: “The scan came back, and it looked fine, but he’s still in pain, so we can only rely on Michael.” We have to take it day by day and see how it goes, but right now he is still feeling it, so we have to try to push him but not shove him.”

Reading will now play once a week for the following three weeks, which is a more consistent fixture schedule than during the Christmas season.
