Imagine him & Windass: Sheffield Wednesday could sign “insane” Ugbo upgrade

Even if Sheffield Wednesday hasn’t lost in 2025, the people of Hillsborough are still angry about the way things are going.

The Owls had to settle for a late 2-2 draw with Millwall last time out as Danny Rohl’s squad missed a penalty late in the first half that would have given them a vital lead in the Championship match. Since moving permanently to South Yorkshire, Ike Ugbo, a former Chelsea striker, has yet to score a league goal after missing that penalty kick attempt. A new attacker might arrive during the January transfer window.

Sheffield Wednesday could swoop for potent striker

Tom Cannon, a lethal striker for Stoke City, is now on a season-long loan at the Potters, but Wednesday is eager to sign him, according to a recent report by journalist Alan Nixon.

Nixon says that clubs may want to test the waters with Cannon’s parent club, Leicester City, at the detriment of Mark Robins’ team during this window. Luton Town and Wednesday are now sniffing around.

Given how poorly Ugbo has performed and the possibility that Josh Windass will miss this month due to an unexpected link with Brazilian team Santos, Rohl’s team could use a little boost up top. Of course, that could just be a wild rumour, but Rohl would love to have both Cannon and Windass at his disposal to terrorise Championship defences and possibly push his team into playoff contention.

What Cannon could offer Sheffield Wednesday

It’s no secret in EFL circles that the Owls target has been a saving grace for Stoke so far this campaign, having lit up the second tier with ten strikes and fired home in all competitions, despite his side lingering all the way down in 19th in the overall standings.

His electric start to life at the Potters—which saw him amazingly fire home four goals in just one game versus Portsmouth—even saw journalist Pete Smith label his goalscoring heroics as “insane,” which is a fitting adjective too for some of Windass’ outrageous moments of quality for Wednesday.
