“I hate myself” Frank Lampard Expresses Heartbreak and Frustration as Coventry City Suffer Devastating Last-Minute Defeat at Norwich After Dominating Performance

Frank Lampard expressed his disappointment after Coventry City were denied a well-deserved victory at Carrow Road, where Norwich City secured a dramatic stoppage time win, overturning a narrow 1-0 deficit. Despite Coventry’s strong performance, Lampard’s side lost after conceding two late goals, leaving the manager feeling for his players.

Coventry took the lead with a well-executed first-half goal, which began and ended with Milan van Ewijk. Although Norwich mounted a second-half comeback, Coventry seemed poised to hang on to their advantage. However, substitute Amankwah Forson scored an incredible equalizer, curling a shot into the top corner, and then struck again moments later, with his shot deflecting off Jake Bidwell and beating goalkeeper Oliver Dovin to secure Norwich’s victory.

Lampard acknowledged the tough loss, noting that the defeat was especially hard to accept because his team had given everything. “We were excellent defensively, our off-the-ball work was top-notch, and the players showed great character and organization,” Lampard commented. He felt for his players, reflecting on how things can change unexpectedly in football.

Regarding Forson’s stunning equalizer, Lampard said, “The lad probably puts it in the top corner, and you can’t do much about that. That was the turning point in the game. Without that goal, I think we would have seen the match out, but it shifted the flow, and from there, the circumstances unfolded. It’s unfortunate because the players truly deserved more from the game.”

Lampard was also asked about the possibility of a foul on Joel Latibeaudiere during the build-up to the winning goal but refrained from commenting definitively, stating, “I don’t know.”

Adding to the frustration, Coventry had an opportunity to secure the win with seven minutes left when Brandon Thomas-Asante found himself clear through on goal but missed the target with only the goalkeeper to beat. Lampard acknowledged the missed chance, saying, “Yeah, probably. But Norwich are a strong team, especially at home. We knew that, which is why we set up as we did, with a back three. It was partly due to our injuries in wide areas, but also because of the threat Norwich posed. The formation gave us stability and a solid base, and the players worked hard. If Brandon had scored, we probably would have won the game. But football is full of ‘ifs’ and ‘buts,’ and that’s just part of the game.”

In summary, Lampard felt the loss was a bitter one for his team, who had worked tirelessly to hold onto their lead and were ultimately undone by two late strikes, one of which came from a spectacular individual effort. Despite the disappointment, he acknowledged that the players had given their all and showed solid defensive organization throughout

the match.
