“I don’t understand” – Reaction given to potential double Hull City player exit

Hull City are entering a critical January transfer window, as Ruben Selles seeks to make the necessary adjustments to keep the club from relegation.

The Tigers have been associated with various names before and after the current window, which may be challenging for teams to conduct business due to the short timescale.

Hull face competition from rival Championship clubs for players such as Willy Boly from Nottingham Forest and Tymoteusz Puchacz from Poland. However, Selles must make important decisions regarding existing players as the club’s squad is already full.

Following the loan of summer recruit Marvin Mehlem to SC Paderborn, the Spaniard is due to conduct negotiations with two further players recruited to the ranks under Tim Walter last summer.

Union Berlin loanee and striker Chris Bedia, as well as goalkeeper Anthony Racioppi, were signed from BSC Young Boys for an estimated €1 million in August.

Racioppi is one of numerous goalkeepers currently on the books at the MKM, alongside current number one Ivor Pandur, and Brighton loanee Carl Rushworth, who has yet to debut for Hull due to injury concerns.

The Swiss shot-stopper has only made one appearance for his new club, which came in the EFL Cup defeat to Sheffield Wednesday on August 14th, which included a weird mishap. He was used as Pandur’s understudy, as the Croat has emerged as a crucial performer for the Tigers.

Bedia has made 21 Championship appearances, nine of which were starts, but has battled for consistency, scoring only three times. His last goal came against Watford on December 11th.

Racioppi and Bedia were absent from Saturday’s match against league leaders Leeds United. Hull Live speculates that Racioppi may go and Bedia may return to the Bundesliga team.

And, although holding his cards close to his breast, Selles admitted post-match that negotiations will take place at the MKM.

“Well, it’s just my team selection, and I thought some other players could contribute more to the game, and then moving forward, of course, I need to have a couple of conversations with them, but I would prefer to have those conversations first and then make a statement to you,” said the quarterback.

Football League World invited Ryan Frankish, a City fan, to provide his thoughts on the topic., for his thoughts on the matter.

Given that both players had faced vastly different conditions since going to East Yorkshire, Frankish’s reaction to the developments was mixed, particularly when it came to Racioppi’s situation.

He began, “Chris Bedia, definitely (let go),””He isn’t good enough to play in the Championship.”

“Without being too harsh, I really do question how he was even scouted to play at this level,” our commentator stated.”I feel his debt should be reduced. We should put a line underneath it, and that’s all.”

“With Racioppi, it’s a little bit different, really,” he once told me.”We have Lo-Tutala, but I thought he was going to Wrexham. We also have Rushworth, but he belongs to another club.”

“I don’t understand why we’d keep him (Rushworth),” Frankish explained.”I’d be more inclined to cancel his loan and keep Racioppi as a bench keeper.”

“If that is the case, I will gladly lend Racioppi out. But I don’t think I’d want to sell him because I think there’s a good keeper in there.”

“At the end of the day, he will want to play football.” “But, I’m sure there could be another plan in terms of rotation or if Pandur leaves/is injured,” he told me.

Hull City must hope for a quick resolution to goalkeeping situation

As a result of multiple goalkeepers being permanently or temporarily contracted to Hull, it’s no surprise that Selles is in such a quandary, especially given the attributes that several of them possess.

Rushworth was due to debut for the Tigers against Sunderland in October, despite Pandur’s strong start to the season.

According to Hull Live, the 23-year-old Rushworth will stay at the club for the rest of the season, despite the ball being in Brighton’s court about his immediate future.

Racioppi would then be demoted to third-choice, which would undoubtedly be a source of frustration for the former Swiss youth international, who has previous Swiss Super League, Ligue 1 and UEFA Champions League experience and would prefer to play for a club that promises him regular minutes.

Given the strength of the MKM’s goalkeeping department, replacements in this area would not be required if Racioppi left, however it would raise further questions about why he and Rushworth were acquired at the same time.

However, it would open up another spot in the 25-man squad, allowing Selles to go forward with further agreements in areas that require improvement as quickly as possible.
