Frank Lampard reacts to Leeds United transfer news

Coventry manager Frank Lampard has responded to Leeds United’s alleged interest in Ben Sheaf.

The Whites were connected with a surprise move for the 26-year-old on 3 January owing to the Sky Blues’ dire financial situation (Leeds United News).

Daniel Farke may aim to strengthen his squad in pursuit of automatic promotion to the Premier League. Despite a 3-3 draw with Hull on Saturday (4 January), his team presently leads the Championship table.

Lampard denied the rumors in a print edition of the Coventry Telegraph (page 34, 7 January), stating, “No, only that I knew that they are rumours, I’ve heard them as you have, so yeah, I want to keep the players here.”

Will Leeds United sign Ben Sheaf?

Sheaf’s prospective transfer would assure the Whites’ promotion to the top division this season.

Ao Tanaka and Joe Rothwell have excelled in the engine room this season, while Ethan Ampadu has done well since returning from injury.

Ilia Gruev is yet to return from injury and will create extra competition for midfield positions, but Sheaf might be a game changer.

Despite playing in the second division, he is a Premier League caliber player who has the potential to lead Farke’s team to the next level as they pursue automatic promotion.

However, with Lampard hesitant to let the player go, the move may be difficult to accomplish during the January transfer window, but the Whites should attempt.
