Andy Morrell claims ‘unplayable’ Wrexham ace doesn’t know his own potential, but warns of potential ‘downfall’

Andy Morrell claims ‘unplayable’ Wrexham ace doesn’t know his own potential but warns of potential ‘downfall.’

Wrexham may be relying on the goals of Steven Fletcher at the moment, but one of their other strikers could end up being the best they’ve got.

Steven Fletcher has now scored four goals in his last six games, three of which have been winning goals for Wrexham.

It’s clear to say that Phil Parkinson’s side are highly dependant on the veteran front right now, and for that reason, fans are desperate to see Wrexham complete a deal for a new striker in January.

But, according to Wrexham legend Andy Morrell, there is one really talented forward in the squad already, if he can just reach his potential.

Mo Faal must learn from Wrexham strikers to fulfil his potential

Modou Faal arrived at Wrexham over the summer, but has struggled to break into the first-team regularly this season. He has racked up just 403 minutes across 11 appearances so far, with one goal to his name coming in the EFL Trophy.

But, Morrell thinks Wrexham have got a player who could be very useful, at least in the future, if Faal can just work on his game and bring all his ability together into a solid package.

Speaking on the Fearless in Devotion podcast, Morrell said: “I really like the way he looks, he’s got happy feet, he’s comfortable with the ball at his feet… He can go past people, he can hold it up, he’s got a bit of everything… at times he’s unplayable in training, I hear. It’s just about consistency.

“I don’t think he knows how good he could be. Along with that, you have to work hard and put yourself about. He has to learn from Fletcher, Palmer, and Mullin and realise he has to run and put in the hard yards to get in the team and stay there.

“That could be his downfall, does he want to work hard enough? He’s got all the ability in the world if he wants to.”

It’s difficult to see when Mo Faal will get his chance at Wrexham this season

The problem is, even with the relative struggles of the Wrexham strikers this season, Phil Parkinson is very unlikely to gamble on a 21-year-old who has shown no real signs of delivering the goals the Red Dragons need to gain promotion.

There is a chance we could see Faal getting minutes in Wrexham’s XI to face Port Vale this week in the EFL Trophy, but Fletcher and Paul Mullin are more likely to start there.

Plus, there is a very good chance that Wrexham sign a new striker this month, which would only push Faal further down the pecking order.

If he does put in the hard work throughout the rest of the campaign, and make the most of any chances he does get in the first-team, then Faal will have a bright future, but he will have to be patient.
