West Brom now in race to sign “fantastic” player for bargain January fee
West Bromwich Albion are looking to sign a “fantastic” player this month for a low sum, according to a recent report.
The Baggies’ search to replace Carlos Corberan, who departed to join Valencia before Christmas, is still ongoing, with a number of managers linked to the position. West Brom were interested in appointing former England temporary manager Lee Carsley, but he reportedly passed down the Championship due to unclear reasons.
Blackburn Rovers manager John Eustace has also been connected with the position. Eustace has done an excellent job at Ewood Park since joining near the conclusion of last season. He has transformed Rovers from a team struggling at the bottom of the table to one vying for a spot in this season’s play-offs. The Baggies could also consider Liverpool coach Johnny Heitinga, who is highly regarded by the club’s hierarchy.
Luke Williams, the manager of Swansea City, has also been considered as a potential replacement for Corberan. West Brom are not considering Williams as their new manager, despite his great record at Swansea City, according to an update.
The Baggies are looking for a new manager, but they also have intentions to upgrade the playing team. According to Alan Nixon of the Ibrox News, West Brom are interested in signing Adam Devine from Rangers this month.
Rangers’ academy produced Devine, who made his first-team debut in 2022/23. However, since then, he has battled to establish himself in the squad, spending the second half of last season on loan at Motherwell. The 21-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season, but a move could come this month.
West Brom are reportedly looking to add to their squad this month despite the fact that they do not yet have a manager in place, and they are interested in Devine. The Midlands club might sign Devine, a right-back, for a “bargain fee,” as he is out of contract in the summer. Devine may struggle to establish himself as a starter in the West Brom squad, since Darnell Furlong has been performing admirably and is regarded as one of the top right-backs in the division, but he would provide valuable competition.
Former Rangers boss Michael Beale handed Devine his chance, and he praised the defender as “fantastic” after he impressed during his tenure. Beale praised Adam for his performance in Rangers’ opening game against Hibernian, stating that he was clearly playing on his weak side.
“We have great expectations for him, and it wasn’t easy tonight. I asked him to play higher up the pitch, with more enthusiasm. For everyone watching, he is a little Scottish lad to be proud of. It’s early days, but you played well tonight, son.”
