Southampton may allow Charlie Taylor to leave this issue month, after being signed from Russell Martin as a free agent in the 2024 summer transfer window. For Southampton, this January transfer window is expected to be one which centres more around outgoings rather than incomings.

Indeed, Southampton have a huge squad at the moment and it must be trimmed before they can focus on bringing players in. This might not be the news Southampton fans wanted to hear heading into this window.

After all, the Saints sit rock-bottom of the Premier League and it doesn’t look like they can avoid relegation without strengthening the team.

While the report is centred around Southampton allowing Ben Brereton Diaz to leave, Mashiter also claims “defender Charlie Taylor may also be allowed to leave.”

Charlie Taylor was signed by Russell Martin in the 2024 summer transfer window. It was a free signing coup with “why not?” at the back of Martin’s mind. Lo and behold, Taylor probably wishes he never joined Southampton Charlie Taylor has made two Premier League starts for Southampton this season, coming off the bench an extra five times.

Ageing at 31 years old, he would hope to be in a better squad position than he currently is at Southampton.

It is believed that Charlie Taylor could be a major coup for any Championship side. This might seem counterintuitive to suggest, considering the Saints will probably be in the Championship next season.

Nevertheless, Taylor has been linked back to Leeds United in the past, where he began his career and endured success before moving to Burnley.
