Sheffield United and Blackburn Rovers linked with Norwich City veteran with three Championship titles on CV

According to reports, Sheffield United is thinking about acquiring Grant Hanley, a defender for Norwich City.

The Blades have relied heavily on Harry Souttar at the back, but the Leicester City defender has been out due to a

major injury.

“I thank Harry for his contribution, he’s been absolutely outstanding for us,” Blades manager Chris Wilder said after

Souttar’s evaluation. It’s a serious setback for us. His Achilles has been broken. It’s simply one of those occurrences.

“There’s a couple of overuse injuries but this is what happens when you’re asking players to go again and again, when

ordinarily you might have that option to give them a chance of a breather.”

On his Patreon page, reporter Alan Nixon claims that Hanley is being contemplated as a potential addition to the

Blades’ backline.

The Scotland international has a history with Blackburn Rovers, having begun his career at Ewood Park, and the club

is rumoured to be interested in Hanley.

According to reports, any agreement would have to include the option of a lengthier stay because Hanley is

scheduled to become a free agency at the end of the season.

He left Blackburn in 2016, signing for Newcastle United and playing a bit-part role as they clinched the

Championship title.

After moving to Norwich in 2017, he made 197 appearances and is still listed with the Canaries.

There is no denying that the 33-year-old has impressive second-tier experience, even though he would not be regarded as a glamorous addition.

He has been promoted to the Premier League three times and is five games away from reaching the division’s 200-

appearance milestone.

Despite making just one league start on the first day of the season, the defender has devoted the most of his time to

Norwich’s campaign.
