Noel Hunt Praises ‘So Important’ Clean Sheet At Charlton
Reading drew 0-0 at The Valley to record their first road clean sheet since the end of the previous campaign.
In order to maintain their winning streak, the Royals earned a point away from home against Charlton Athletic.
Reading performed admirably under duress and managed to hold on for a good road point with some strong defence. With the point, we drop to sixth place, but we still have a three-point lead over Stockport County, who are in seventh place.
A clean sheet away from home and his team’s performance impressed manager Noel Hunt. He talked to the Reading Chronicle and this is what he said.
Hunt on the performance
I thought the boys were fantastic today. “With the work we’ve put in over the last three or four weeks, and
before, they deserve that little bit of luck that we maybe hadn’t had in the last three or four games.” “We
tightened up a few things and the boys battled all the way through. It was a young team: Abraham
[Kanu], Kelvin on returned from training last week and played right wing. Andre battled well today.” “We
had two or three [chances] but the clean sheet was really important to us – we haven’t had one since last
year away from home.”
Hunt on picking up a point away from home
“Having a solid platform is crucial when we are away from home. In terms of our spine, our team’s skeleton and structure are excellent. There, we have experience on every pitch.
“Today’s midfield boys were excellent; Charlie Savage deserves praise for his last-second block. Harlee Dean took one off the line by applying his experience.
“A point away from home against these is that they have an experienced side and don’t drop many at home. You think, “Wow, let’s go,” as you watch Chuks Aneke come on. The boys have truly impressed me.
