Alfie Jones believes new arrivals will revitalise Hull City and improve the team’s atmosphere in the coming weeks.

Acun Ilicali and his recruitment team are looking to strengthen City’s squad ahead of the end of the window on February 3. The club is fighting to avoid relegation from the Championship and recently earned a battling point against Leeds United after falling behind 3-1.

The Tigers bought a slew of players in the summer with mixed results, but Selles’ team has been decimated by injuries, with no fewer than six of their close-season additions currently unavailable, including Liam Millar and Mohamed Belloumi, while Oscar Zambrano is banned.

Jones believes that bringing in new faces is vital, but so is finding people who can hit the ground running and make an immediate effect.

“Yes, definitely; obviously, it needs to be (players who can hit the ground running),” Jones answered on Hull Live. “It’s difficult, but all-in players who can come in and have an effect in the locker room and on the pitch. We’re not in a good position right now, so we need people who can step in and help.”

Jones admits that a fresh perspective on things can be beneficial, and while Selles has had a great influence since coming over last month, adding talent on the pitch is critical.

“I definitely believe it’s like a breath of fresh air (new arrivals). They don’t know the situation, so they come in with open eyes and attack it right away, which could be a good thing.”
