Middlesbrough’s Ben Doak continues to show why he is wanted in stalemate with Cardiff City

The 19-year-old Scotland international’s wing-play created space for Emmanuel Latte Lath to score his 10th goal of the season in a 1-1 draw at the Riverside Stadium. Doak, who is on loan from Liverpool, has reportedly received proposals from Crystal Palace and Ipswich in the last week, but the Reds have turned them down.

He was picked to Middlesbrough’s starting lineup on Saturday and performed well against the Bluebirds.

Carrick stated: “Nothing has changed. Loans are loans; that’s how they are. In terms of the situation, this is exactly where we are.

“He played today, appeared dangerous, and scored a goal. It’s what it is. Nothing has changed from our perspective. I’m fairly calm about it.

“He played today, did well in spells, and appeared to be very dangerous. I have no concerns about that.

“January might bring up a variety of issues. Sometimes you can keep players, sometimes you can lose them, or teams may come in for your players; that is simply the way it is. Everyone is important, but we knew what we were getting into.”

Latte Lath’s opening from Doak’s throw in the 12th minute appeared to put Middlesbrough, in fifth place, on track for three points.

Calum Chambers, a former Middlesbrough loanee who spent a season at the Riverside in 2016-17, equalised nine minutes later.

Middlesbrough failed to provide the requisite magic in the last third to gain three points.

Carrick stated, “I was unhappy that we didn’t create chances and trouble the goalkeeper. The guys are attempting to accomplish a variety of things. We could be better than we are now.

“It is an attitude; it is the players, staff, supporters, and everybody; we must look forward and create that enthusiasm and positivity to see what is possible. We tried tweaking things to locate that spark, but it didn’t work.”

Cardiff are currently 23rd in the Championship, level on points with Hull and Portsmouth above them following three games without defeat. Rubin Colwill had a late chance to win it for Cardiff, but his header from a cross went wide.

Bluebirds head coach Omer Riza stated, “Every point is essential. This is a difficult spot to visit; we were able to contain them with our resilience and earned a point.

“The boys are shown battling spirit. We probably need to improve our possession skills and avoid turnovers, as this allows them to hit us again.”
