The Tigers know they need to get players quickly to boost Selles’ flagging squad
Hull City head into the new week hoping of securing at least two deals before Sunday’s FA Cup clash with Doncaster Rovers at the MKM Stadium.
City are in negotiations with three players regarding moves to the MKM Stadium; a central defender, winger and centre forward, and it’s anticipated at least two will be finalised in front of the weekend visit of Grant McCann’s Rovers, coming on the back of Saturday’s thrilling 3-3 draw with Leeds United
A perfect week would see all three signed and sealed by the weekend, however bosses are careful about making too many predictions, but work has been underway behind the scenes for a lengthy period of time, and it’s hoped they will get their rewards.
One player was set to meet City head coach Ruben Selles on Sunday to discuss the finer points of his move, which would be a permanent after a fee was agreed with the selling club, while the striker deal is understood to be a loan move until the end of the season.
It’s also anticipated that Carl Rushworth will remain at the MKM Stadium amid speculations Brighton and Hove Albion may try to recall the goalkeeper. Rushworth is back in training, and could feature against Rovers on Sunday in what would be his first appearance since joining on deadline day in the summer, having been hit by an ankle injury.
Rushworth was expected to start against Sunderland in October, but picked up that critical injury on the day before the visit of the Mackems and has been sidelined since.
His return to action will free up the club to try and move on Anthony Racioppi, who has played just one League Cup game since arriving in the summer, while Chris Bedia could also see his season-long loan move from Union Berlin cut short, provided the Tigers clinch their attacking signing.
It’s hoped the two, maybe three new signings, would bring a welcome boost to the dressing room, and supporters, with more new arrivals expected during the month, while there will be another five exits, at least, after Marvin Mehlem’s move to German Bundesliga.2 side Paderborn.
Mehlem’s transfer is an initial loan switch to the promotion-chasers, but there is a possibility to make that move permanent in the summer, with boss Ruben Selles claiming despite that, the door isn’t necessarily closed for the summer signing.
“I think it’s too far in advance to talk about that,” Selles said when asked if Mehlem’s career at City was over just a few months after arriving from Darmstadt. “I suppose, for the time, we wish him all the best. Thank you for his time here with us and for his time here with me. I wish him all the best, and hopefully, he can go there, play games, and feel himself again as the football player that he is, and then we will address the situation in the summer.”
