Coventry City working through Frank Lampard’s ‘good ideas’ after Norwich crumble

Coventry City midfielder Jamie Allen has recently made his comeback after two months on the sidelines with injury

After Coventry City’s thrilling loss to Norwich City on Saturday, midfielder Jamie Allen acknowledged that he was

unable to “put his finger” on the problem the Sky Blues are currently facing. However, he and his teammates plan to

put in more effort on the training pitch this week in an attempt to find a solution.

Frank Lampard has been the club’s manager for nine games, and the team’s performance has been inconsistent.

They have won three games, been held to three draws, and lost three games, the most recent of which was at Carrow

Road over the weekend.

Things should’ve been different. Leading through Milan van Ewijk’s first half opener, the Sky Blues entered stoppage

time still in the lead, but Forson Amankwah – who’d only been on the pitch himself a little over five minutes –

stunned City and Lampard with a stoppage time brace to steal all the points and send the Sky Blues back to the

Midlands empty handed.

Allen, into his sixth season with the club, chose to retain the positive aspects out of the overall display despite the

disappointment and touched on the ideas which Lampard is still implementing on the training pitch, ahead of

welcoming Sheffield Wednesday in the FA Cup on Saturday.

“It’s just little things,” he said. “I really can’t put my finger on it which they are, but we’re working together. The new

head coach has come in and got his good ideas, and we’re working with those ideas and hopefully we can put

performances like that together week and week out, and then hopefully results come.

“I think it’ll take time to get over it a bit, and then hopefully the boys come in next week, and it’s in the past now. So,

we have to work forward and think about the future.”

Allen most recently made his comeback to action following a protracted absence; he was given brief appearances in

both the convincing victory over Plymouth Argyle and the crushing loss at Portsmouth, but he was given a start at

Norwich and played the entire game.

Yes, I’m making my first start since getting hurt. “I’m thrilled to be back on the team and contributing to the team,”

he continued. “I thought I put in a lot of work, and I thought the team did too. We functioned as a cohesive unit, and

I hope that keeps up.
