Following Coventry City’s heartbreaking loss to Norwich City on Saturday, midfielder Jamie Allen acknowledged
that he was unable to “put his finger” on the problem the Sky Blues are currently facing. However, he and his
teammates plan to put in more effort on the training field this week in an attempt to find a solution.
The club has had three wins, three draws, and three losses, the most recent occurring at Carrow Road over the
weekend. The discrepancies in the team’s performance are evident since boss Frank Lampard took over as
manager nine games ago.
It ought to have been different. After Milan van Ewijk’s first half goal put the Sky Blues ahead going into stoppage
time, Forson Amankwah, who had only played for a little more than five minutes, stunned City and Lampard with
a brace in stoppage time to take all the points and send the Sky Blues back to the Midlands without a victory.
In spite of the loss, Allen, who is entering his sixth season with the team, decided to focus on the positive aspects of
the overall performance and discussed the concepts Lampard is currently putting into practice on the training field
before facing Sheffield Wednesday in the FA Cup on Saturday.
“It’s only minor things,” he stated. “We are collaborating, but I truly can’t pinpoint what they are. The new head
coach has brought in some excellent ideas, and we are working with them in the hopes that we can consistently put
up performances like that week after week. Hopefully, results will follow.
“Hopefully, the boys will visit next week, and everything will be gone now, although I think it will take some time
to move on. We must therefore look to the future and move forward.
Allen most recently made his comeback to action following a protracted absence; he was given brief appearances
in both the convincing victory over Plymouth Argyle and the crushing loss at Portsmouth, but he was given a start
at Norwich and played the entire game.
Yes, I’m making my first start since getting hurt. “I’m thrilled to be back on the team and contributing to the
team,” he continued. “I thought I put in a lot of work, and I thought the team did too. We functioned as a cohesive
unit, and I hope that keeps up.
