Commanders Make Primetime Announcement After Securing Playoff Matchup
In Week 17, the Washington Commanders defeated the Atlanta Falcons in exciting overtime to secure a berth in the
2024–25 playoffs. Additionally, the team earned its No. 6 seed in the NFC with a victory over the Dallas Cowboys in
Week 18. The Commanders will now play the No. 3 seed Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Wild Card round after they
defeated the New Orleans Saints on Sunday afternoon to win the NFC South for the fourth time in a row.
Not only will the Commanders play in their first playoff game since 2020, they’ll do so under the lights at Raymond
James Stadium. This postseason matchup was announced as the primetime “Sunday Night Football” contest of the
Wild Card round. The game will kickoff at 8 p.m. EST on NBC. “Wild Card Weekend. Sunday Night Football. Let’s do
this,” the Commanders wrote on X.
The Commanders recorded an outstanding 12-5 regular-season record, led by rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels
and first-year Washington head coach Dan Quinn. In an area where the team has not performed well in recent years,
the squad will now try to carry this performance into the postseason.
The Commanders’ most recent postseason game was in a 31-23 loss to the visiting Buccaneers on January 9, 2021.
Since defeating Tampa Bay on January 7, 2006, the team has not won a postseason game.
