Birmingham City could be set for cash boost as club prepare transfer offer

As rumors about Sunderland striker Jobe Bellingham’s future start to swirl this month, Birmingham City will be closely monitoring events from a distance. Numerous clubs both domestically and internationally are interested in the adolescent. Borussia Dortmund, who signed sibling Jude in 2020, is reportedly an admirer, along with Premier League teams Crystal Palace and Brentford.

After another strong run of play in the first half of this season, Palace is now predicted to make a move for Bellingham this month. The Mackems are trying to stay up with Burnley, Leeds United, and Sheffield United at the top of the Championship table. The Blues are expected to pay attention, no matter how things turn out.

When the Blues let Jobe to move St Andrew’s for then-Conventional rivals Sunderland in the summer of 2023, rumors surfaced last year that they had included a sell-on clause in the agreement. He met up with Mike Dodds, the former academy manager, and Kristjaan Speakman, the former director of the Blues academy, in Wearside.

After being given his debut by Lee Bowyer, Jobe, now 19, made 26 appearances for the Blues before playing a little more frequently under John Eustace. However, he moved to the Stadium of Light last year for about £1.5 million, and he has since played frequently in the Championship, scoring 11 goals in 68 league appearances so far and playing for the England under-21 team.

As part of the agreement that sent Bellingham from the Blues to Sunderland, the Daily Mail reported last spring that the Blues would get up to 15% of any future fees if the Black Cats sold Jobe. Although it would probably take a big offer to entice Sunderland, Bellingham’s sale may have a ripple effect on the Blues, who are expected to be busy during the winter window themselves, as rumors that he could be targeted in January grow.

In addition to left-back Lee Buchanan, who had just made a long-awaited comeback before suffering yet another regrettable and monumental setback, Chris Davies has lately lost wingers Emil Hansson and Keshi Anderson to injuries. After playing half of their games, the Blues defeated Wigan on Saturday to reclaim their top spot in the League One standings.
