Amankwah Forson opens up on tough start to life at City

Amankwah Forson opens up on tough start to life at City.

Amankwah Forson’s life at Norwich City has not been easy, but he thinks that a heroic cameo in the club’s victory over Coventry can change his fortunes.

City recruited the Ghana international from Austrian side RB Salzburg in the summer for a fee of up to £4 million, but despite a promising start in England, Forson has battled for consistent game time. Prior to his Coventry heroics, Forson had not played a minute of football since late November, but he seized his opportunity with a game-winning cameo against Frank Lampard’s side. Johannes Hoff Thorup told the Pink Un last month that the 21-year-old has had to adjust to the physicality and intensity of the Championship, and Forson admits his start at Norwich has been difficult. “It hasn’t been easy, honestly,” Forson acknowledges. “As a football player, you know that your time will come; you just have to stay.” focused and make it happen.

“I have tried to play my style, but it’s quite physical here, and you need to think really fast to avoid the contact. I think that I will get better.

“You must seize your opportunity when it arises, but only if you are prepared. Whatever it is, all I need to do is stay focused and be pleased, whether I play or not. “When the opportunity arises, you take it. In football, anything can happen in a matter of minutes. If you’re not playing, you need to keep working, staying focused, and making things happen.”

Amankwah Forson was the matchwinner in Norwich City's dramatic win over Coventry.

The midfielder’s next objective is to make his contributions more consistent, and he is grateful for Thorup’s support, his coaching team, and City’s roster of players for guiding him through a difficult moment. “I played a few games in the starting XI, but then I stopped playing. It doesn’t matter what you do as a football player; you just have to keep working and hope that your time comes,” Forson remarked. “I have learnt a lot. You must understand what you must do and work towards making it a reality. I’ve had the support of the entire staff and team. That is what we do; it has all about working hard to make it happen.”
