With an agreement already made in the first week of the January transfer window, Wolves are now close to signing a new defender for Vitor Pereira, who will be his first acquisition as manager of the Old Gold.
Wolves require defensive reinforcements.
Wolves has given up more goals than any other team since the Premier League season started. Although they have only given up twice in the three games since Pereira replaced Gary O’Neil, the Old Gold have allowed 42 goals in just 19 games, or 2.21 goals per game.

Southampton | 44 | 2.2 |
Leicester City | 44 | 2.2 |
Wolves | 42 | 2.21 |

Brentford | 35 | 1.75 |
The club’s inability to properly replace Max Kilman after his £45 million sale to West Ham United and their acquisition of adolescent Bastien Meupiyou, who has not yet made his professional debut, have been at the heart of that issue.
Whether in a back four or a back three, it has forced O’Neil and Pereira to use experimental defenses. Matt Doherty is the most recent temporary center-back to replace Mario Lemina.
However, Toti’s injury, which could keep him out of action for up to a month, has now pushed Wolves into the transfer market as they aim to strengthen their defense and expand their roster in an effort to keep from being relegated from the top flight.
They are expected to make great strides in that direction.
According to a number of sources, Wolves has now agreed to pay €20 million (£16.6 million) to recruit Emmanuel Agbadou, a center-back for Stade Reims.
The 27-year-old, who is 6 feet 3 inches tall, has been a vital member of Reims’ defense this season, helping them finish comfortably in midtable with just 21 goals given up in 16 games.
Although he is more used to playing in a back four than a back three, this Ivory Coast international is now in the prime of his career and could fit well into Pereira’s squad.
Wolves have agreed to pay “around €20m” and would also give the center-back about £50,000 per week in salary, according to a report by Santi Aouna of Foot Mercato.
According to scouting website Concept Scouting on X, Wolves will be getting a “exceptional long ball player” with “great interception skills” for that expenditure. This season, he has averaged over three tackles and interceptions per game.
“The two clubs have reached agreement,” the Reims president told reporters, seemingly confirming the deal. The player is in the same situation. He just needs to sign his contract and pass his medical. The offer from Wolverhampton was too good to pass up.
