Michael Carrick reacts to Liverpool rejecting Ben Doak bids from Crystal Palace and Ipswich

Many Premier League teams are interested in Liverpool winger Ben Doak, and if the Reds opt to sell this month, his loan at Middlesbrough would come to an early conclusion.

When asked about the offers Liverpool got for Ben Doak earlier this week and turned down, Middlesbrough manager Michael Carrick gave a realistic response.

Teenage winger Doak signed a season-long loan with Boro last summer, but if Liverpool decides to sell him this month—as other Premier League clubs are interested in him—the North East club would lose the 19-year-old this month.

The Reds knocked back offers from both Crystal Palace and Ipswich of around $17-$19 million to sign him over the last 48 hours, but would reportedly be willing to let the youngster leave for a fee of around $37 million.

Doak has registered six assists and two goals for Boro this season, with one of those assists coming in the team’s 1-1 draw with Cardiff on Saturday, and Carrick was asked about the prospect of losing one of his key players this month — something which could have a detrimental effect on Boro’s pursuit of a Championship play-off spot.

“Nothing’s changed,” stated Carrick. “It’s just that loans are loans. That’s precisely where we are in terms of the circumstances. Today, Doak played, looked menacing, and scored a goal. It is what it is. In our opinion, nothing has changed. I’m not too upset about it.

“Teams are clearly considering our guys because they are talented, and we have some good players here. Having players like them in our lineup is a huge plus for the football team.

“A lot of things are possible. We must be prepared for any eventuality. We have to deal with it whether it’s planned or comes from somewhere else. We’re prepared for surprises, so there won’t be any.
