Leeds United open talks to sign Andrew Omobamidele

Leeds United are trying to add depth in defense and they have initiated discussions to recruit Nottingham Forest centre-half Andrew Omobamidele this month.

The Whites remained at the top of the championship table, although they failed to pick up victories in back-to-back games. Leeds drew 3-3 at Hull City on Saturday, and they will be furious for squandering points from winning position.

According to a report from The Sun, Leeds are in negotiation over a loan deal for the 22-year-old defender, with an obligation to purchase next summer.

Forest spent roughly £11 million when they recruited him from Norwich City in the summer of 2023. They are attempting to reclaim a fee of roughly £10 million.

Championship rivals Sheffield United are also in the battle to get the Ireland defender, although they are only seeking to take him on loan.

In such event, Forest will surely be persuaded to sell the defender to Leeds. Daniel Farke knows him very well, since the player made his Premier League debut under him back in 2021, and he is considering a reunion.

Leeds United perceive it as a long-term investment
The Whites have mainly depended on the duo of Joe Rodon and Pascal Struijk.

Max Wober can also play as a centre-back, while Ethan Ampadu can cover the position if required. Last season, Ampadu developed a terrific connection at the defense with Rodon when Struijk was injured, although he is essentially a central midfielder.

Wober has rarely appeared this season, and he is constantly linked with a transfer away from Elland Road. Leeds consider Omobamidele as a long-term investment, and it appears like the Whites will be aiming to clinch a deal with Forest fast.

Forest are flying high at the moment, and they are looking for the coveted Champions League berth. With so many talented defenders ahead of him, Omobamidele has found playing time hard to come by this season, and a transfer away from the club appears more inevitable.
