Johannes Hoff Thorup lauds ‘special’ moment for Norwich hero Amankwah Forson

Goalie Amankwah Forson scored twice in stoppage time to give Norwich a barely believable 2-1 victory over

Coventry, and Norwich head coach Johannes Hoff Thorup urged the substitute to savor the moment.

After a strong start to his career at Carrow Road, the Ghanaian midfielder hasn’t had many opportunities to shine

in recent months, but he seized center stage to completely change the outcome of the game.

Thorup, whose team is currently only four points behind the play-off pace following a third win in four games,

said, “Normally I tell players not to take too much notice of what the press say after games, but on this occasion I

have told him to take it all in.”

It is well deserved because it hasn’t been easy for him, a new player in a new country who hasn’t played much

lately. “Like many players in this situation, he has had a hard time settling, but the other players have helped him,

and it was very special for him to have that happen at the end.” Overall, I was really proud of the players’

dedication to their task and their continued belief that they could win the game despite not taking the many

opportunities we created.

Although it has been a strong run, we must be cautious since we know that the Championship might go either way.

We can only continue to put forth a lot of effort.

After an impressive counterattack in which Jake Bidwell crossed the ball for an unmarked Milan van Ewijk to

convert, Coventry took the lead in the twenty-fourth minute.

After then, the visitors played strong defense, occasionally riding their luck, and until the thrilling climax, it

appeared as though they were on their way to a hard-fought victory.

The unexpected hero was substitute Forson, who had entered the game in the 84th minute.

After jumping on a loose ball, he equalized with a fantastic curling effort from the edge of the box. A few minutes

later, he completed the incredible comeback by blasting home via a deflection after fellow replacement Onel

Hernandez had rushed clear down the left and picked him out.

Frank Lampard, the manager of Coventry, remarked, “I feel so bad for the players after that; they gave it their all,

but those kinds of things can happen in football sometimes.”

“For the first ninety minutes, I thought it was a good, disciplined performance, with everyone working hard, but

then the boy puts one in the top corner, and everything changes.”

“That one is beyond our control, and then another one comes in off a deflection.

We had performed admirably against a strong team up to that point. We would have won it from there, but that’s

the ups and downs of football. Brandon (Thomas-Asante) had a terrific chance to make it 2-0.

“The boys are obviously devastated, but I told them that I thought their performance was excellent overall.”
