Huge offer for Stoke City man could force transfer decision as Mark Robins made to wait

Tom Cannon, who has nine league goals this season, is on loan from Premier League Leicester City—but rumour is red hot that he could be on the move this month.

Stoke City will expect to have striker Tom Cannon in their squad by the beginning of February, but suspicion is growing that parent club Leicester City may decide to move the forward away from the Potteries for the second half of the season.

Cannon, formerly of Everton, has been Stoke’s undisputed focal point this term, beginning with his four-goal haul in the demolition of Portsmouth to deliver an early win in the reign of former manager Narcis Pelach. He has since followed that up with important strikes in wins over Derby County and Blackburn Rovers, as well as recently against Sunderland and in the draw at Queens Park Rangers.

His nine league goals have propelled him to the top of the top scorer list, level with Burnley’s Josh Brownhill and Portsmouth’s Callum Lang, but Cannon’s outstanding performance has piqued the interest of clubs throughout the Championship. The Irish international is reportedly coveted by both Luton Town and Sheffield Wednesday.

Stoke’s arrangement with the Premier League. Leicester is scheduled to play the full season, however clubs can make bids to the Foxes during the January transfer window, after which the choice is totally up to the parent club.

According to The Sun, while Luton and Sheffield Wednesday are interested in Cannon, the former is below Stoke in the standings and the latter is chasing the play-offs, Leicester would need a massive deal to consider selling him. That will be a major relief for new Stoke manager Mark Robins, who saw his team draw 0-0 with bottom-place Plymouth on Saturday.
