Frank Lampard rues two key moments as Coventry City suffer stoppage time defeat at Norwich

Coventry City match reaction from CoventryLive as Frank Lampard gives his verdict on today’s game at Carrow Road

After Coventry City lost a narrow 1-0 lead at Carrow Road to Norwich, who won in stoppage time to deprive his team

the three points, Frank Lampard felt bad for his team.

Milan van Ewijk started and finished the Sky Blues’ well-executed first-half goal, which put them ahead. Before

replacement Amankwah Forson curled a spectacular equaliser into the top corner and then hammered home the

winner minutes later, which deflected off Jake Bidwell to past Oliver Dovin in goal, they looked to have overcome a

second half comeback from the Canaries.

“Yeah, and I’m disappointed for the players because they gave everything,” Lampard remarked when asked if it was a

terrible way to lose a football game. We played a very strong defence, were excellent off the ball, shown excellent

spirit, and executed the strategy with wonderful organisation. And because it occurs in football, I simply felt sorry for

them.

Reflecting on the wonder goal equaliser, the City boss added: “I think the lad probably puts it in a top corner and you

can’t do much about that. That’s what changed the game. If they didn’t score that I think we’d have seen the game

out. But that changed the flow a bit at the end and the rest is circumstance, and it’s unfortunate for the players

because they deserve more.”

Asked if he thought there was a case for a foul on Joel Latibeaudiere in the build-up to the winning goal, he said: “I

don’t know.”

City, meanwhile, passed up the opportunity to secure the three points seven minutes from time when striker

Brandon Thomas-Asante went clean through but put his shot wide with just the keeper to beat.

When asked about the lost chance, Lampard said, “Yeah, probably,” but Norwich is a fantastic club and very strong

at home. We were aware of that, and I believe that’s why we set up the way we did today, switching to a back three

due to a decision with the opposition as well as injuries to our wide areas, which sometimes make it nearly necessary

to go that way.

However, it provided us with stability and a solid foundation. The players put in a lot of effort, and I believe we will

likely win the game if Brandon scores—which is bad because I felt he had a really fantastic game. It’s the ifs and buts

of football, though.
