Forget Sheaf: Two Championship stars Leeds United should have their eyes on instead – View
Under Daniel Farke, the Whites will be examining transfers much more closely starting this weekend. Although this month will be rather quiet, something should be done. Farke was lacking in a few areas, but his summertime attempts to strengthen his team following big player sales were generally successful.
The 26-year-old, who has played a key role in Coventry’s previous seasons of promotion, bounced back from injury issues at the beginning of this season to keep the captain’s armband and start frequently under Frank Lampard. According to reports, Leeds may be taking advantage of Coventry’s attempts to stay within the bounds of any financial restrictions for the Championship team, therefore an offer of about £8 million may be taken into consideration.
It isn’t a wise move for Leeds at the moment, though, as Farke brought back Ethan Ampadu in December to contend with Joe Rothwell and Ao Tanaka for a starting spot, giving Leeds three of the best options in the division. In addition, Josuha Guilavogui, who is very experienced, was added in October, and Ilia Gruev is expected to return soon. If Leeds have extra cash in the January transfer window, these two Championship acquisitions would make much more sense.Remaining at Coventry City, Haji Wright makes more sense if Leeds are thinking about making a bid for someone from the Sky Blues due to financial pressure.
Wright, who plays off the left as well as leading the line, is one of the better forwards in the division and a fellow USMNT international with Brenden Aaronson. The 26-year-old has scored 23 goals and provided 8 assists in 59 games since the season began. This is a fantastic return for an attacker who frequently switches positions and has seen his team’s performance plummet this year. If he were a target, Wright, a quick and physically strong striker, might change up Leeds’ front line.
