Exclusive: Sheffield United could battle Leeds United for £11m transfer target amid Nottingham Forest exile

If Sheffield United increases their interest in Nottingham Forest player Andrew Omobamidele during current transfer window, they may face their local rivals Leeds United. After Harry Souttar suffered a season-ending Achilles injury, the Republic of Ireland international is reportedly on United’s lengthy list of targets this month, according to The Star.

Ben Brereton Diaz is reportedly one of United’s top targets as Chris Wilder looks for a man who can play wide left and cover up front. United is reportedly concentrating their initial search on attacking areas. Brereton Diaz is believed to be United’s preferred pick, while Louie Barry of Aston Villa is also a possibility following his goal-filled loan stint at Stockport County.

Some members of United’s recruitment team also have admiration for Kwame Poku, the young player from Peterborough United, but he will not be available until March following surgery for a hamstring problem. United is also hoping to bolster its midfield, including Tyler Morton of Liverpool and Hamza Choudhury of Leicester City. However, they were forced to change their January plans after it was confirmed that Souttar would not play this season.

As we previously disclosed, Omobamidele was a target for United in the summer of 2023 before joining Forest for £11 million following their promotion to the Premier League. The 22-year-old has only made one appearance this season, against Newcastle in the League Cup, and has only played 15 times overall for Forest.
