Birmingham City planning transfer raid as fresh link emerges

As the January transfer market opens, Harry Darling, a center half for Swansea City, has reportedly caught the attention of Birmingham City. The Blues passed the halfway point of League One on Saturday, gaining three more points in their best win of the season at Wigan Athletic. They now lead the league by two points.

Under the direction of Knighthead, Craig Gardner, and Chris Davies, the Blues had a particularly busy summer. Fifteen senior players were either sold, released, or loaned out, while seventeen were hired either permanently or on loan. Even though the new team has taken off, the Blues will probably be active this month in terms of adding players and possibly approving departures.

When healthy, the Blues have four senior center halves. Ben Davies has recently forced his way into the picture, but Dion Sanderson is still the one option that has been consistently left out of the starting lineup and hasn’t participated in a League One match in two months, even though Kristian Bielik and Christoph Klarer started the season as the clear first choice duo.

Before what is expected to be a season that ends with at least automatic promotion, there has already been conjecture about whether Blues could sign another center half option. If, as is becoming more likely, Blues return to the Championship the following season, they will want to have the groundwork in place to build on the momentum they have already established.

Under Luke Williams, Darling, 25, has been a constant for Swansea this season. A former Cambridge and MK Dons defender, he has helped the Swans score five goals, including in losses to Hull and Leeds, and he is almost at 100 appearances since joining the team in 2022. Darling’s contract at the Liberty Stadium expires in the summer, and it has been reported that Bristol City is also interested in him.
