Brendan Rodgers has declined to comment on Tierney’s potential return to Celtic, citing caution in the face of speculation.
Former players returning has become a popular topic, with Mark Wilson claiming Jota should be on the Hoops’ radar as they look for reinforcements.
Michael Stewart has weighed in on both individuals and their potential moves.
Stewart stated on the Scottish Football Social Club that Tierney and Jota would be valuable additions to Celtic, citing their connection with Glasgow and potential benefits.
He began by addressing Tierney: “There has been so many gossip and conversation about Kieran Tierney, who has six months left on his contract. My instinct tells me Kieran Tierney would be interested in returning to Celtic. I honestly believe he would. Could this happen in January? I wouldn’t disregard it.”
Later, Stewart added, “The caliber of Kieran Tierney on a free transfer? Jota for £5–6 million? There aren’t many players available who have a connection to the club and understand what it’s about. As much as you want to go out and discover new talent, these guys are still young and hungry.
“Jota is 25 and Tierney is 27, thus these are still young players with potential
While Tierney and Jota are valuable assets, they are unlikely to play Champions League football in their current roles.
However, Celtic might provide that platform if they make it through the league portion of the campaign, which requires three more points in their final two games against Young Boys or Aston Villa.
Tierney is the most likely of the two candidates to be selected. Could European progression help him make a stunning comeback? You would think there is a good probability, but you can never be certain.
