The New York Giants are getting ready to play in their regular season finale this weekend against the Philadelphia Eagles as they look to wrap up their brutal 2024 campaign. Big Blue currently sits at 3-13, and this season will mark the seventh time in nine years that New York will have ten or more losses in the regular season.

With the team and coaching staff eager to put this miserable season behind them, Giants fans will now wait to see what the organization plans to do this offseason to get the franchise back on track, particularly at the quarterback position.

While the G-Men unquestionably need to find their next franchise signal-caller, whether through the draft or free agency, they are also being urged to address another significant position of need come draft day this spring.

Bleacher Report urges the G-Men to draft a CB with Day 2 pick

Bleacher Report recently published an article outlining the needs of NFL teams heading into Week 18, and unsurprisingly, quarterback was identified as the Giants’ most pressing issue. However, cornerback was also highlighted as a critical need, which isn’t shocking considering how woeful the secondary has been all season.

When Pro Bowl safety Xavier McKinney signed with the Green Bay Packers this past offseason on a four-year deal, New York’s secondary took an immediate hit—and it has shown throughout the year. The Giants’ defense ranks 24th in total defense, allowing nearly 350 yards per game.

Even though their pass defense is ranked tenth in the league, they still need to address this area, especially given the second-year struggles of cornerback Deonte Banks.

After showing promise during his rookie season in 2023, the former 25th overall pick has had a rough 2024 campaign. Banks was hurdled during a Week 8 matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers and was even benched for a lack of effort. His performance last week against the Indianapolis Colts wasn’t much better, as Joe Flacco passed for over 330 yards, and Banks struggled to make any meaningful plays on defense.

The Giants spent a mid-round pick on Kentucky’s Andru Phillips last draft, and he is currently doing a good job of manning the slot for them. However, the defense could use someone on the outside. So, why not take a look at Phillips’ old running mate and dip back into the Kentucky Wildcat talent pool again?

B/R explains: “Hairston projects as a Day 2 pick with the potential to develop into a high-level contributor in the NFL,” the corner’s scouting reportsays. “His combination of length, press coverage skills, and zone awareness makes him an intriguing option for teams that play a lot of zone or press-man coverage. However, his inconsistent footwork and tackling ability will need refinement at the next level. With proper development, Hairston could become a solid starting cornerback in the NFL.”

Even though the Giants will undoubtedly be searching for a new quarterback this offseason, they should also prioritize addressing their secondary. Banks, in particular, had a very disappointing season, and with his future potentially uncertain, adding another cornerback this offseason makes the most sense.
