Jota nightmare escalates, Tierney’s final roadblock and domino finally falls on £8m deal – Celtic transfer state of play

Jota, who is out of favour at Stade Rennes, has been shelved once more by manager Jorge Sampaoli, amid speculation that he could return to Celtic.

The winger faces a major choice on his future after falling down the pecking order at the club following the arrival of Sampaoli, who has publicly attacked the 25-year-old’s fitness standards and raised concerns about the Portuguese forward’s ability to fit into his football philosophy. According to reports in France, the former Hoops hero is on a shortlist of players who could be moved on by the Ligue 1 side this season, barely six months after ending his horrific term with Al-Ittihad in the Saudi Pro League.

However, it’s déjà vu for the Portuguese star as the French top flight returns from its winter vacation. The boss once again left him on the bench, and he is still waiting for his first start since Sampaoli’s arrival.

Kieran Tierney’s transfer from Arsenal appears to be on the way. The left-back is nearing the end of his contract with the Emirates and is in talks about a pre-contract move back to Glasgow’s east end.

The Gunners are thought to be willing to let the Scotland defender leave the club this month, with the Daily Mail reporting that the final hurdle in a deal is if the left-back will reduce his pay. Tierney is said to face a “£3m hit to rip up his current contract and return to Glasgow on a permanent basis this month.”

In other news, Celtic could revive their interest in Mateusz Bogusz, who is valued at £8 million, following the breakdown of his Los Angeles FC exit last summer, when the MLS club signed another frontman.

The 23-year-old was at the focus of transfer talks between the Scottish Premiership champions, but the Hoops failed to complete a deal in time for the Poland cap, instead signing Arne Engles and Luke McCowan on deadline day.

LAFC has officially announced Jeremy Ebobisse as their latest addition. According to the Sporting Tribune, the deal is considered as an attempt to replace Bogusz’s 16 goals from previous season, which have left “questions looming over his future.”
