Southampton announce return of two players from their loan spells

Southampton have welcomed Cam Bragg and Dom Ballard back to the club, after both players spent the first chunk of the season on loan in League One.

Southampton hope to have a busy January transfer window. Without a doubt, it can be said with certainty that the Saints need to bring players in. To do so, there are many different paths Southampton can take – The first is by returning their players from loan.

Naturally, since they achieved progress to the Premier League for this season, Southampton thought it best to send more players out on loan.

The move from the Championship to the Premier League meant that some younger players weren’t promised game time for the Saints.

According to a story from George Rees-Julian of Daily Echo, Southampton have recalled Cam Bragg and Dom Ballard from their separate league spells in League One. They will now link up with Simon Rusk, Southampton’s U21 boss and last month’s temporary manager.

Dom Ballard has not had an easy time in the last few matches, despite getting off to a scoring start in only his second game on loan at Blackpool. The loan move did not pay off for Ballard so now he will return and hope for game-time under Simon Rusk.

Similarly, Cam Bragg will hope for more game-time with the Saints, being unable to make the team at Crawley on loan. Therefore, it was the right call to cut his loan move short.

Given that Southampton are likely to be relegated this season, it’s a smart choice for Southampton to begin putting more importance on their youth production between now and the end of the season.

After all, both Ballard and Bragg could play greater parts for the Southampton first-team in the new season. Let’s just wait and see.
