Last year’s 4-0 defeat at the Valley, with its deep stand behind the goal, had the Royals’ greatest away attendance (2,518) of the season.
That accomplishment appears to be repeated this time around, as the original, advanced allocation of 2,510 was officially sold out on Thursday.
Another 600 tickets have been made available to Royals supporters and can be purchased at the gate, bringing the total possible allotment to over 3,100.
Reading last triumphed at the Valley behind closed doors in 2020. In 2016, Brian McDermott’s Royals won 4-3 in front of nearly 3,000 Reading fans, with Deniss Rakels scoring a stoppage-time winner.
Reading took almost 1,000 to Cambridge United on New Year’s Day, selling out the allocation, and were rewarded with their third away win of the season, 3-1.
Leyton Orient host the Royals on January 25, thus both London away trips occur within a month.
More than 1,700 travelled to Birmingham City on the first day, while the previous season’s high was 1,843 at Wycombe Wanderers.
