Luke Williams holds talks with Swansea City hierarchy as West Brom speculation swirls
Despite rumours that he was linked to the open West Bromwich Albion position, the Swans manager now appears to be staying.
Luke Williams, the manager of Swansea City, is not seen to be a candidate for the West Bromwich Albion position.
Rumours have persisted for the previous several days that Williams was one among those being looked at by the Baggies following the departure of Carlos Corberan at Christmas.
However, an approach to the Swans or Williams’ representatives never materialised, and he is believed to be preparing for Saturday’s fixture, ironically against the Baggies, as normal.
Williams is still favoured to take over at The Hawthorns despite the lack of communication, despite West Midlands reports that the club is not pursuing him. Within Swansea, there is a growing sense that Williams will remain at the club, despite the fact that some members of the club’s leadership are reportedly a little alarmed by the way the head coach is handling the situation, as are fans, many of whom have been let down by Williams’ inability to publicly commit to the team and end the rumours.
Indeed, while seemingly distancing himself from the job, Williams has twice opted not to completely rule anything out when quizzed on the links.
But during crucial negotiations this week, Williams is rumoured to have assured chairman Andy Coleman that he is still dedicated to the Swans, and there is increasing speculation that he will now remain with the team.
As the team prepares for what might be a crucial January window, it is anticipated that the saga will soon come to an end when the Swans manager addresses the media later this afternoon.
