Farke wants Elvedi ‘immediately’ as £8.2m Leeds transfer update emerges

According to the German tabloid on Friday (page 12, January 3), the 28-year-old has an £8.2 million release clause in his contract with the Bundesliga team and hopes to play in the Premier League.Although the center-back would love to join the top division [Ben Jacobs], Monchengladbach is open to hearing proposals for him in January, and Farke will stop at nothing to get Elvedi to Elland Road.

Daniel Farke wants Nico Elvedi at Leeds United

Before moving to Leeds, the Swiss international had a brief stint at Monchengladbach, where he worked under Farke. Farke might use his ties to the Bundesliga team to gain an advantage in the bidding for his services, but any possible agreement would be hampered by Elland Road’s lack of Premier League football.

Elvedi, who has played more than 300 games in the Bundesliga, would be a fantastic addition to Leeds’ defensive ranks; his vast top-flight European experience would give Farke an even greater advantage in the title race. Nevertheless, the Whites have one of the most talented squads in the Championship and are leading the division going into the halfway point of the season, with promotion to the top flight a very real possibility.

It may be difficult to persuade Elvedi to leave Monchengladbach for a non-guaranteed brief stint in the Championship, but the promise of promotion could seal the deal and secure a signing who will surely play a huge role in the title charge. Additionally, the options at Elland Road are extremely limited, even though Ethan Ampadu has just recently returned to the team after his lengthy injury troubles. Joe Rodon and Pascal Struijk have been tasked with starting every Championship match across a demanding schedule.
