Sunderland and Leeds United transfer ‘target’ Louie Barry may have already dropped hint over future
Louie Barry, a reported Sunderland target, has apparently indicated that, in one form or another, his future is probably going to be away from his current team, Aston Villa, during the January transfer window. The 21-year-old, who has 15 goals and two assists in 23 league games this season, was called up by Villa from a loan stint with League One team Stockport County.
It is widely believed that he will finish in the second division this month, and several Championship teams, including Sunderland, Leeds United, and Burnley, are reportedly keeping an eye on his position. Although it was first thought that Barry would be loaned out once more, there have been rumors that he would be let to leave permanently. In any case, the young player has two options: either stay and compete for a first team berth at Villa Park, or look for a new challenge elsewhere.
However, given the strength of Unai Emery’s team and Barry’s present lack of top flight experience, it is unlikely that the attacker will be able to establish himself as a regular starter in the Midlands right away. Additionally, the player himself stated in an interview with The i that was published back in November that he is eager for regular senior minutes, implying that any sort of exit would fit his goals.
“At the age of 21, I have nearly 120 senior appearances under my belt,” he stated. That was my desire. It didn’t work out when I went to Ipswich for my first loan. I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I was just eighteen years old. I was depressed and not building matchday squads, but I also had a profound yearning that wasn’t being sated. I then left for Swindon Town.
