Lancashire Police issue warning message to Blackburn Rovers and Burnley fans before derby
There will be a ‘significant police operation’ taking place across East Lancashire on Saturday
Anyone who plans to commit an offence at this weekend’s Blackburn Rovers vs Burnley clash “should expect to be
arrested on the day or await a knock on the door”, according to Lancashire Police.
A highly anticipated matchup between two of the league’s top teams will take place at Ewood Park on Saturday
lunchtime. Rovers have won their previous two games and are currently barely outside the play-offs on goal
differential, while Burnley has won three of their last five games and is currently ranked second in the table.
Earlier this season, the East Lancashire teams’ meeting ended in a 1-1 tie, with Andreas Weimann’s amazing goal for
Blackburn negating Lyle Foster’s opening goal. During the match, striker Makhtar Gueye was sent off.
Rovers have lost all nine of their previous league meetings with Burnley since a 1-0 triumph on the road in the
Premier League in 2010. Burnley has won each of their last three away league encounters versus Rovers, despite the
fact that Rovers haven’t lost their opening home game of the season since 2015.
A’significant’ operation involving specialist officers, police dogs, the mounted section, investigation teams, and aerial
backup is what police promised in a statement sent to supporters. In addition, resources will be available on the rail
networks and throughout the remainder of East Lancashire, including Burnley, Darwen, Hyndburn, the Ribble
Valley, Pendle, and Rosendale.
“With specialised officers, including police dogs, the mounted section, investigation teams, and aerial support, we
want to reassure locals and supporters of both clubs that a major police effort is underway throughout East
Lancashire. We will have resources throughout the rest of East Lancashire, including Burnley, Darwen, Hyndburn,
the Ribble Valley, Pendle, and Rossendale, in addition to a large police presence in Blackburn.
“The great majority of supporters want to see the game and cheer on their club. The handful who might be
determined to conduct crimes, both inside and outside the stadium, should anticipate being arrested that day or
having our officers knock on their door.
In light of this, we would encourage only ticketed fans to attend the stadium. You can anticipate being told to leave
the stadium if you are an away supporter in any of the home end stands.
