Juric set for transfer talks with Southampton bosses next week

SAINTS manager Ivan Juric is preparing for transfer negotiations with the club’s management next week, the Croatian has stated.

Juric, who was chosen as Russell Martin’s replacement last month, believed Southampton need to work on slimming down their roster before making acquisitions.

The former Torino and Roma coach remains interested to assess what the present players are capable of before seeking to recruit further talent.

Saints have already sanctioned a loan agreement for summer signing Ronnie Edwards to join Championship team QPR until the end of the season.

Juric stated he might recommend prospective players to his managers before adding he wants to keep any transfer activity away from interactions with the media.

Asked if he has identified a position Saints need to reinforce, Juric said: “We will have a meeting next week and then we will determine what to do.

Now we have too many players, we have to give them (send them out on loan) and then we can start thinking about maybe bringing somebody in.

“The intention was that we have lots of guys and we have to decrease the squad and then we will have a meeting next week.

“Then I will give my views about what we need after two or three weeks of work here. What we need to get better.”

Summer signing Ben Brereton Diaz has been linked with a return to Sheffield United, where he spent the second part of last season on loan.

The Chile international, who is still waiting for his maiden Saints goal, finds himself out of the squad and has not appeared under Juric.

Asked if the 25 year old may be one who goes, Juric said: “No, I prefer not to speak the names now.”

Starlet Tyler Dibling, 18, scored Southampton’s first goal under Juric at Crystal Palace last weekend when he tapped in from close range.

The youngster is already tied down to a deal until 2026, with Saints also retaining an option to trigger a one-year extension.

Dibling has been given additional terms as a reward for his successful campaign but is yet to put pen to paper.

Former coach Martin said that Dibling’s agent is the one holding up the transaction and that the academy graduate is anxious to stay at St Mary’s.

Asked if he would like Dibling to sign a new deal to hush any future transfer speculations, Juric explained: “I think what is best for him is to play for Southampton and continuing developing up.

“He is still young and he has to concentrate just on training well and playing games. Nothing else.”
