Ianis Hagi to marry Patrick Vieira needs with Rangers transfer on cards
In its print version [27 December, page 22], the Italian tabloid stated that Genoa may finance a move for his countryman Hagi after Romanian tycoon Dan Sucu acquired a 77% ownership in the team. With his ability to play across the midfield, Hagi, who has made nine appearances for the Gers since rejoining the first squad, has a tactical profile that may “marry” Vieira’s system at Genoa.
Ianis Hagi January exit on the cards at Rangers
Despite all of the positive feedback that Hagi has received since rejoining the team after a contract dispute at Ibrox, the 26-year-old’s long-term future in Light Blue is still up in the air. Before Philippe Clement changed his mind about Hagi, a January transfer seemed certain, but he may still make a move because the Gers are arguably well-stocked in his position. Despite not playing in the first team at Ibrox, Hagi has been given regular playing time in Romania’s national lineup, and many of his home country’s journalists have urged the playmaker to push his way out.
Hagi has been reluctant to do so, in contrast to Todd Cantwell, but the opportunity to be the star player for what would be the first Romanian-owned team in Europe’s top five divisions might be too good to refuse. There will undoubtedly be changes at Ibrox next month, possibly even in the dugout as well, but it is unclear if the Bears would take advantage of Hagi given the probable implementation of a sell-to-buy policy.
