Championship boss willing to sanction striker exit amid Sheffield United links

Sheffield United appears to be looking to add another striker during the January transfer window, but last month, they were linked to Ashley Barnes, a veteran of Nottingham City, which caused some concern. A few years have passed since the 35-year-old’s frightening peak, when he was in high form in the Premier League and the Championship. He is still a significant player both on and off the field, though, and the Blades might benefit from his astute, seasoned arrival.

Barnes has a one-year extension option with the Canaries, although his contract expires at the end of the current campaign. However, some could anticipate that he will move on given that he has only participated in eight Championship games this season. Now, Nottingham City manager Johannes Hoff Thorup has acknowledged that if letting the Sheffield United target go turns out to be the right course of action, he is prepared to do so.

Despite his limited playing time, Barnes can still contribute at Carrow Road, according to Thorup, who also said he will accept a departure if the signals suggest that Barnes moving on will lead to the best end. Regarding the Sheffield United target, he stated, “We need to get together and figure out what’s best for everyone.” He and a few of the others are involved.Sometimes you have to accept things, and other times you have to give a bit in order to receive.

“Even though I would prefer that he stay, I can see that if anything happens and he can find a two-year contract elsewhere, it’s probably okay. I truly value the mindset and experience he brings to the table.It is somewhat similar to the situation of Fasi [Christian Fassnacht]. We can certainly use him, but we must respect him and accept it if anything truly excellent comes up for him.
