Celtic fired a staff member for releasing an apparent transfer list that featured a current Chelsea player and a former Manchester United player.
A document containing Celtic’s transfer plans was leaked ahead of the 2019/20 season.
The club took efforts to seek down the person who leaked the transfer document.
Following a meeting, cleaner Maureen Quinn was terminated with immediate effect, as was her son, Edward Quinn, who was suspended from his security position at the club’s Lennoxtown training base.
Maureen told The Daily Record, “It is a disgrace. “I have done nothing wrong, and I am being blamed for whatever it is. I know my son would not do anything wrong. We are only scapegoats. I’d like to clear my name.
She added: “They pulled me in three times for meetings about this.
“In my job at Lennoxtown, I empty bins and transport them to the bin room using a cart. They believe I looked through the dumpsters and found this document, which I delivered to my son, who photographed it.
“I support Celtic because my son and husband do, but I can’t name half of their players.” I don’t care what’s on a piece of paper. “I was in tears.” I’m gutted and ill for Edward, too.”
The leaked transfer list includes Chelsea’s Reece James, who had just finished a season on loan at Wigan Athletic, and then-Manchester United’s Scott McTominay, who joined Napoli last summer.
James Justin, who left Luton Town for Leicester City, and Fikayo Tomori, who played for Derby County the previous season, were also named in the transfer papers.
At the time, a Celtic spokeswoman stated, “This is an internal matter.” We are convinced that the club acted properly.”
Edward had worked for Celtic since 2008, initially as a game steward before transitioning to security.
He stated, “About 30 people work at the training centre. Celtic’s club counsel and head of security questioned everyone in the building on their own.
They invited me and my mother back in for second interviews. “They showed me a picture of a hand holding a piece of paper. My supervisor said, ‘I think they look like your nails’. I showed them my nails, which were not as short as the ones in the photo.
“They also mentioned me going to the football administration office on the morning of the Scottish Cup Final on May 25. I was on duty and have texts indicating that I asked folks if they had a phone charger. “I went into that office looking for one.”
