West Brom new manager: Immediate Tony Mowbray update emerges

West Brom new manager: Immediate Tony Mowbray update emerges.

According to Chris Lepkowski, Tony Mowbray was instantly named as a potential successor to Carlos Corberan at West Brom.

The journalist believes that the 61-year-old’s return to The Hawthorns may come too soon as he continues to heal. Mowbray had to step down as Birmingham City’s head coach earlier this year due to health difficulties, having been diagnosed with colon cancer. The Englishman is on his way to recovery, but on The Liquidator podcast (December 29), Lepkowski stated: “Tony Mowbray was instantly named. “I believe it comes a little early for Tony. I believe he is on the correct path to rehabilitation, but I do not believe the position is currently suited for him.”

The 61-year-old was the Baggies’ head coach from 2006 to 2009, and fans would welcome his return, but only if it was a good fit for him. Over the last three years, the veteran manager has done well, leading Sunderland to the Championship play-offs in 2022/23. Corberan joined Valencia after managing West Brom through a turbulent period under Steve Bruce.

The 41-year-old head coach of The Hawthorns was expected to help the club achieve Premier League promotion after a strong start. However, he left midway, leaving the Baggies just two points behind fifth-place Blackburn Rovers. The club has made progress in recent months and needs to make the right appointment to meet expectations.
