Utter madness’: TalkSport presenter states what he’s hearing about Celtic hero Postecoglou’s Tottenham job

Ange Postecoglou, the Celtic hero, is having an intriguing time at Tottenham.

Postecoglou was in Glasgow not long ago when Spurs and Rangers split the Europa League prizes, before Celtic defeated them in the League Cup final a few days later.

That 3-3 drama at Hampden is reminiscent of what Tottenham fans have come to expect since Postecoglou joined the London club from Celtic in the summer of 2023.

It has caused some interesting conversations in England since Parkhead’s Treble-winner refuses to back down.

That was one of the things Celtic fans appreciated about Ange. It’s his way or the highway, and he’s honest when presenting himself to the media.

However, as injuries pile up, the games have become increasingly frantic, ranging from a 4-0 victory at Manchester City to a 6-3 defeat at home against Liverpool.

Overall, it has led some to question the Greek-born Australian’s position.

Sam Matterface feels it would be ‘absolute folly’ for Tottenham to fire Ange Postecoglou. It’s fairly straightforward.

Postecoglou has taken a club that was used to and expected to win trophies to one that no longer is or is expected to.

Spurs have not won a trophy since 2008, and the last time they won the English championship was in 1960.

Ange was not even born yet! In any case, amid speculation about the 59-year-old’s future, Sam Matterface told talkSPORT that kicking him out now would be ‘absolute folly’.

“It is his style and he says ‘I am going to play this, no matter’ and over time, he thinks that style will breed success,” Matterface told me.

“There has been a lot of discussion and speculation about what will happen if he loses this game. What happens if he loses this cup tie? Are they considering making a change?

“That would be madness. It would be insane to get go of Ange Postecoglou. If you are Daniel Levy, you do not have to fire the management; instead, you must persuade the manager that you may need to sacrifice one or two of your values once more. Tweak your philosophy rather than forsake it. If you get rid of him, you’re tossing away the good along with the bad. You have just started a new project. You have recently signed a large number of new players. If you’re Tottenham, you don’t spend much money, then why quit the entire endeavour halfway through the second season? That would be complete craziness.

Postecoglou’s record at Celtic vs Tottenham It’s reasonable that there is greater attention focused on Postecoglou because he plays in the Premier League, which is worth billions of dollars and widely regarded as the greatest in the world.

However, he was already under the most intense strain when he accepted the Celtic job following the farce of Neil Lennon’s tenure.

To get the club back up and running, and in significant style, was a testament to the man, who left with five championships and only 18 defeats in 113 games.

Postecoglou has lost 24 of his 69 games in charge of Tottenham, but he is still in the League Cup semi-finals, so there is still a possibility to win some silverware.
