Sheffield United ‘admirers’ of Sunderland summer transfer target heading into January window – report
Reports state that going into the January transfer window, Sunderland’s promotion rivals Sheffield United are “admirers” of former Black Cats transfer target Tom Cannon. Throughout the summer, the 22-year-old was linked to a number of center forward alternatives at the Stadium of Light. However, he eventually left parent club Leicester City to sign a loan deal with Stoke City.
He has been playing well ever since, tallying nine goals and dishing out one assist in 20 Championship games. His most recent goal against Sunderland on Sunday gave the Potters a late 1-0 victory. However, it is believed that Cannon may attract interest from the top echelons of the championship table as the winter market is scheduled to begin on New Year’s Day.
Sheffield United is one team reportedly mulling a move for the Republic of Ireland international, but they would probably need to sign a long-term contract with Leicester to acquire the player, according to an update from Darren Witcoop. Therefore, it is believed that Cannon’s loan deal with Stoke, who are reportedly “desperate” to retain the striker for the rest of the season, does have a recall clause.
