Phil Parkinson issues Paul Mullin verdict amid big update on Wrexham ace before Barnsley.
Phil Parkinson on Paul Mullin and Jack Marriott ahead of Barnsley vs. Wrexham
Mullin scored for Wrexham against Blackpool on Boxing Day, marking his first goal in 11 league meetings.
However, the 30-year-old went blank again while starting against Wigan on Saturday afternoon, prompting substitute Steven Fletcher to salvage the three points off the bench.
According to Leader Live, Parkinson issued a good verdict for Mullin and provided an update on Jack Marriott’s injury recovery.
He said: “We’ve got Arthur Okonkwo ready to start training harder in the next week or so, Jack Marriott is back on the pitch, Paul Mullin is working hard for us, scored a wonderful goal the other day, and looked threatening against Wigan.
“We’re pleased but we’re going to keep our feet firmly on the ground and make sure the preparation is as professional as it can be each and every game.”
Jack Marriott might succeed Paul Mullin at Wrexham.
Mullin may have scored against Blackpool and received plaudits for his Wigan performance, but he is still not scoring enough goals to win a regular starting spot.
The Liverpool-born forward has only two league goals this season and may be pushed out of the starting lineup when Marriott returns soon.
Despite being out injured since October, Marriott is Wrexham’s top-scoring number nine in League One this season, with five goals.
The Red Dragons are currently in a very tight promotion race, and unless Mullin begins performing in the next weeks, he should be discarded in favor of Marriott.
