Notts County vs. Walsall—who’s out and who’s a doubt?

The latest Walsall injury round-up ahead of their trip to Meadow Lane to face Notts County on New Year’s Day.

Jack Earing, ankle (10%)

Following a significant cameo off the bench, Earing was knocked off in the last minute of Walsall’s 2-0 victory over

Newport County on Sunday.

The midfield player’s ankle injury was confirmed by Mat Sadler at full time.

He acknowledged that the injury “didn’t look great” in the immediate aftermath, but he was unable to specify a time

estimate, raising questions over his availability for Notts County.

Sadler said:  “Unfortunately, Jack looks to have taken a bit of an injury on his ankle I think he said.

“I don’t really have an idea on that yet but that doesn’t look great at the moment. We’ll have to watch and see what that looks like.”

Josh Gordon, hamstring (0%)

Gordon has been out with a hamstring injury since hobbling off during Walsall’s 2-1 win over Cheltenham Town in late August.

The striker is still on course for a mid-January return and took a step closer in his road to recovery by returning to

full training last week.

“He trained with us for the first time in terms of proper training yesterday. We’ve got a period of a couple of weeks of

getting him back up to speed now,” Sadler revealed.

“I’m not going to rush him because he has been out for a long time.”

Ronan Maher – ankle (0%)

Sadler has revealed Maher is set for a “few weeks” of rehabilitation as he recovers from an ankle injury he sustained

while on loan at Tamworth.

He said: “Ankle. Ronan has got another few weeks of rehab to go. It won’t be too long until he is out on the grass but not just yet.”

George Hall – hamstring (0%)

Hall missed the win over Barrow after sustaining a hamstring issue in training on the eve of the game.

The midfielder, who has been plagued by a series of hamstring injuries over the past 18 months, had previously

started the past three league games.

Sadler was initially unable to commit to a time frame but has since confirmed that the Birmingham City loanee will miss at least “six to eight weeks.”.

Boss Sadler confirmed on Dec 14: “George is back with Birmingham. I mentioned that the other day but it’ll be six to

eight weeks. Maybe a little bit more so we’ve just got to look after him with that.”

Priestley Farquharson, thigh (0%)

Farquharson’s recuperation from a thigh injury that has kept him out since August has taken a turn for the worse.

The defender, who has spent the last 18 months at Walsall dealing with ailments, was hoping to make a comeback after the new year.

As he got closer to making a comeback, Sadler disclosed last month that he had been taking part in the warm-up

during training for the first time.

However, following a consultation with a specialist last week, it is now expected that the centre-back will miss an

additional two months of action.

Earlier this month, Sadler disclosed: “Unfortunately, Priestley suffered a setback last week. On Wednesday, he

consulted a doctor who affirmed that it’s a reasonable setback.

Therefore, it’s likely that he will be out for another several months, which is really upsetting for him.

“We’re gutted for him and will need to rally around him.”
