Jota transfer ‘expected’ as Celtic return rumour explodes with Rennes exit price floated and loan ‘on the table’
The wide man looks to be on the move after a difficult spell in France
Jota is apparently “expected” to depart Stade Rennes, with speculation of a return to Celtic.
The winger is in limbo just six months into his Ligue 1 career, having fallen down the pecking order at the club following the arrival of Jorge Sampaoli, who has publicly criticized the 25-year-old’s fitness levels, raising concerns about the Portuguese forward’s ability to fit into the Argentine manager’s football philosophy. Sampaoli has yet to give Jota a start since his arrival at the club last month, replacing Julian Stephen. Ouest-France reports that the wide man is on a list of players that may be sold.
Former Rangers player Glen Kamara is also reportedly on the shortlist. He departed Leeds United for the French club in the summer but now appears to be surplus to requirements. The club is said to be “open to offers” for the players on the list, and they “expect” them to depart, including Henrik Meister, Baptiste Santamaria, and Christopher Wooh. A “temporary” loan escape for the periphery guys is also being considered, according to reports.

According to Michael Stewart of the Scottish Football Social Club, there has been some discussion about Jota at Stade Rennes, suggesting a potential bargain for the Hoops. The new manager has come in and appears to believe that Jota is not entirely fit, but that he is a vital player. https://sportupdates.co.uk
“These types of players are hard to come by, especially given the money you can pay. Jota for £5–6 million? There aren’t many players like that who are available, have a connection, and understand what the club is all about.”
